AUCTIONS

Cherrystone Auctions 25th/26th July

What a feast this latest catalogue is!! Lot 2100 steals the show completely, this being a collection of no less then 234 proofs, essays and unaccepted designs for the Romanov Tercentenary issue. Many of these are illustrated in glorious colour and it is worth getting the catalogue just for these. The estimate for this lot is a princely US$75,000 so out of the reach of most of us.

Do not despair however for Cherrystone has quite a large Russia section in this auction with items from US$150 upwards. There are examples of both the Kiev and St.Petersburg Romanov booklets at US$5,000 each, a collection of Soviet stamp artwork at US$8,000 plus some quite interesting covers including first airmail to Kabul, advertising envelopes and a range of back of the book or more esoteric items.

Remember to look under other areas such as Ukraine and South Russia as Cherrystone continue to list in strict alphabetical order rather than put all Russian area items together which would make matters a lot simpler. That said the catalogue is a must to see and if you do not have time to get a physical copy get on to their website as the catalogue can be viewed in full including illustrations.
