Vance auctions - Canada. June 12th sale
Reviewed by Marcus Sherwood-Jenkins
Quite possibly a new name to most of you, this family run philatelic auction has been running now for a good many years and is well worth keeping an eye on for some Russia bargains. The format of the catalogue is rather like a broadsheet newspaper and it is packed with black and white illustrations. Lots come in all shapes and sizes and are generally in the lower to mid range of material with single stamps. Sets, covers and collections, all featuring.
Obviously with this type of general auction the Russia content varies but this particular month it has a fair number of lots sprinkled through the catalogue. Be careful to check the catalogue carefully in the foreign, collections, postcards and last chance lot sections.
Items that are worth a specific mention this month include: Lot 596 a two volume collection of over 3,500 stamps with an estimate of Can$800,various other collections lots598,633,643 and 668 with a range of valuations Can$200-700, a range of individual items lots 2846-2867, a mint accumulation in glassines lot 4890 at Can$200 estimate and a collection of 30 old Ukranian cards, lot 5209, at Can$125
