AUCTIONS

Warwick & Warwick, 1st August 2001

This sale has a range of very good collections covering the Russian area starting with lot 972 a most interesting collection of Latvia which commences with a 1794 wrapper to Pernau with a straight line Riga handstamp and finishes with a selection of the early coat of arms imperf proofs and colour trials. On the way it takes in multiples of the arms issue printed on maps, manuscript cancels and a whole host of good issues both perf and imperf. Estimate is £300.

Following this is another lot of Latvia running from 1928 to 1940 complete with some expertised scarce items, railway newspaper stamps, postal stationery and a few errors. This is estimated at £550.

Shortly afterwards at lot 984 we find a large and extensive Lithuania 1918-40 collection housed in a springback and in slightly mixed condition with an estimate of £400 and a smaller lot at £80.

Moving on to the Russia at lot1036 we find a three volume (Yvert albums) collection with a wide range of earlies mint, obligatory tax stamps, and a host of desirables through until the early 1950's topped off with some P.O. in the Turkish empire and Touva. The estimate on this is £1,700. That is not all however, it is followed by 3 further lots in stockbooks ranging from £240-600 in estimate and containing something for everyone up until around the early 50's. this is then followed by a splendid collection broken into two lots, the first (1858-1929 section) with a good range of earlies and early soviet stamps including some awkward to find items. (est £600). The second part of this collection runs from 1929 to 1946 and comprises a run of issues mainly fine used including a Moscow-San Francisco 1R on 10K expertised twice (although the catalogue does not state by whom, so probably worth a phone call or extension after purchase). Again estimated at £600.)

Two smaller lots follow including another copy of the San Francisco flight !R on 10K, (again "expertised" but no name given) at an estimate of £80.
